Are Receded Gums Permanent? What Can Be Done About It?

added on: November 26, 2010

There is a procedure to re-grow the receded gum line back on the tooth again to cover up the exposed root surface.  This procedure is called gum grafting and can be done in our office in about 90 minutes just using a local anesthetic. Not only will your smile look better, any sensitivity to hot and cold goes away too. Gum recession is not good because it is a sign of  bone loss and support. Growing gum back over the tooth also helps to regain support for the tooth and helps prevent further bone loss.  The more bone and gum that cover the tooth, the longer you will be able to prevent early tooth loss.
