Conscious Sedation

Darren Chu, DDS | | Catergories: Uncategorized

It has been suggested that as much as 5 to 20 percent of the adult population in the United States avoid dental treatment because of dental anxiety. It has also been said that a major cause of this anxiety is from a painful or other traumatic experiences. These people often choose IV Sedation for having dental work done. There is also another way, they call “conscious sedation.” This means the patient stays fully conscious, but in a relaxed state of mind. With the patient relaxed, this also makes for a relaxed dentist and staff. All together this makes a great dental experience for all.

On February 24, our Canyon High School Interact Club held its first event, a concert at Canyon High School. Featured singers and musicians were the talented students of Canyon High. This high school community service organization organized and advertised the event. Culinary offerings included hamburgers, hot dogs, and baked desserts. Congratulations to the Interact Club on this successful event! Proceeds from the event will go to an international service project called Water for Sudan. As the New Generations chairperson for the Anaheim Hills Rotary Club, I consider it to be a honor to be a part of starting this organization at Canyon High.

Beatle – John Lennon’s Tooth

How about this dental fact!…… A molar tooth belonging to former Beatle John Lennon was bought at auction for more than $31,000.00. Following a dental visit in the 1960′s, Lennon gave his extracted tooth to his housekeeper suggesting that she give it to her daughter as a souvenir. The tooth just went up for auction and a Canadian dentist bought it and plans to display it  in his dental office when he is not taking it on tour to other offices and dental schools. This is one generous Tooth Fairy!

Octoberfest and Chico

Darren Chu, DDS | Tags: , , | Catergories: Uncategorized

Last Saturday our Anaheim Hills Rotary Club raise about $10,000 that we will be giving back to the local community and  internationally, this  was a great event! We had a Weiner Dog Race and Chico was one of the contestants. Chico was a rescue dog with non functioning back legs. The employees at Home Depot custom made this wheel chair like device for him so he can walk. The amazing thing about Chico is, he doesn’t realize he’s handicapped, probably because know one ever told him. Even with out the use of his back legs, he gets around just fine. I think Chico represents a lesson we can all learn. People have all kind s of handicaps, mental, physical, cultural, racial, emotional, the way we were raised, what neighborhood we were raised in and on and on. Just like Chico, we need to stop making excuses and move on in life. As I watched Chico, he reminded me how fortunate I am, things could be a lot worse. So despite our excuses and baggage, we like Chico need to move on and stop blaming others and  for our misfortunes. Let’s all look ourselves in the mirror and “Just Make It Happen”, no excuses. Join me in “Keeping your feet on the ground and reaching for the stars.” !! Take Care.

Monarchs for Marines

Last Saturday I participated in grilling 1200 hamburgers and hot dogs for families of  Marines deployed  to Iraq and Afghanistan. This was a special all day event sponsored by the Mater Dei High School Football team. There were activities for the kids and practice for the Marine Football Team and the Mater Dei Football team.  It was nice to be able to show some appreciation to  our troops and their families.
